Patio Hot Tub and Garden

September 25th, 2009

I just bought this great condo in central Phoenix, there is a nice sized patio that needs some attention. I love to garden and grow tropical plants and always wanted to build a koi pond and would love to be able to have a hot tub too. There should be plenty of room if  I plan it right.

To start the measurement of the patio are 12 feet deep and 30 feet long. I want to build a pond that is at least 200 gallons as it is easier to keep the water stabilized for the fish with a larger quantity of water. I figure that should take up about a space measuring about 10 feet by 12 feet for the pond and filtering system, leaving plenty of room for a hot tub. After looking on the Internet at hot tubs there are plenty of models that would fit into the space left after the pond is installed. I think I will go with a smaller model as the size of the patio and I don’t want to overwhelm the space with the hot tub.

I am really looking forward to turning this patio into a lush tropical paradise which will be a stark contrast to the desert around us. I can imagine soaking in my relaxing hot tub on my tropical patio with the koi in their pond near by. And knowing me that won’t be the end of it. Once I get that all done a small aviary would be very nice with some lovebirds sweetly chirping away.

This will be a project and take some time to complete. I want to do the work myself on the pond and I am imagining that will take at least a month if not more to complete. After that the hot tub will be installed then I can plant the tropical garden and finally an aviary.
