The American worker takes only more vacation time than a worker in Mexico. We are a nation of complete workaholics, who instead of feeling entitled to our vacation days, feel bad for asking for them.

Now, with the economy the way it is, people may not be able to afford the vacations that they once took. But instead of not taking that time off, you should still take it off and just stay home and think of other ways you can spend that money instead of on a lavish vacation with airfare and hotel plus attractions and food.

Why not take some time to actually discover the city that you live in. Take some time out to explore some of the cultural things in your city that you rarely have time for.

You could also get some things crossed off of your to do list. If you have been meaning to get your closet cleaned out, it would be a perfect time to actually do it finally. Having time to do it will make sure you do it thoroughly and don’t rush the process.

Take in some local sporting events. Treat yourself to some tickets to a game in town. Baseball is of course, America’s pastime and there is bound to be a game going on in your city during the summer.

Another option is to just spend some time around your house. Take some of the money that you would have spent on a vacation and put it towards something that you have wanted. Most people shy away from being the leader or public speaking. They do not want to deal with the responsibility or being blamed if something goes wrong. But what if you are not afraid of that and can’t figure out how to let your leadership skills get noticed? It’s time to stand up and let your boss and superiors know that you are the one who is meant for leadership.

If you think you are ready to become a leader in your field you are going to have to have the know how it requires. Become an expert on your field, make it your passion. Or at least pretend it is.

Ever heard the saying about dressing for the job that you want? Well if you are not already doing that start so immediately. Image is a big part of a leader, if you look like a leader people will take your ideas more seriously and believe that you are an authority figure. That’s where some leadership development can come in.

When you have an opportunity to speak up or offer ideas, always do so. Even if you don’t think you have a good idea, still offer something up. It will allow you to become memorable, so that when it comes time for promotions people know who you are and know what kind of work you do.

Keep your boss updated on the kind of work you are doing. Even if they don’t ask you to keep track of you work it is a good idea for you to at least keep a log for yourself. So when you do get that interview for a higher position you can easily show a record of your past work.

Have ideas, but don’t give them all away at once. If you are interviewed for a promotion offer up some key points but make them hire you to get all of your ideas!

American tennis player Andy Roddick was a little bit of the American tennis gem there for a little bit. After winning the 2003 US Open, he then reached three other Grand Slam finals. Two in Wimbledon and another US Open, he lost to Roger Federer each time. He has failed to reach the finals in The French Open and the Australian Open.

Roddick holds the record for the fastest serve ever recorded in professional tennis of 155 mph.

After his amazing 2003 season he then suffered a series of injuries and has been fighting his way back to world number on status ever since. He currently sits at number six in the world. But competition is fierce now.

Not to mention his tennis rival Roger Federer has been knocked out as the world number one, he still sits in between Roddick and the number one ranking. And then there is Rafael Nadal, who has just become a tennis powerhouse. He is going for his fourth consecutive title at The French Open this year.

The French Open has been a place of defeat for both Roddick and Federer.

Roddick has seen prosperity on the grass courts of Wimbledon, and could find that to be the surface he excels on and of course the US Open.

Time will tell if Roddick can ever regain his former number one glory.
