3 Traditions of Washingto DC

Three of Washington DC traditions are: the Washington International Horse Show; Old Town Alexandria’s walking tour; and of course the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. All three destinations are within walking distance of most major luxury hotels Washington provides its hundreds of thousands of tourist each year.

The Washington International Horse Show has been an equestrian tradition since 1958. This year’s event will begin October 26, 2010. For visitors not in town during this grand event, a day excursion to country is will give them the opportunity to see many horses, especially in Middleburg, which is a one-stoplight town surrounded by horse farms, vineyards and plenty of shops and restaurants.

Old Town Alexandria’s walking tour begins across the Potomac River where tourist can spend a day meandering along the beautiful historic streets of Old Town, Alexandria. This quaint historic district dates back to 1749. While there, they can grab a bite to eat at Gadsby’s Tavern, an Early-American style restaurant and museum.

The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History’s exhibition: Discover Your World uncovers the fascinating discoveries of the Human Origins; this is a permanent exhibit. While at the museum, visitors should see the Gem Gallery . They will be wowed by the stunning beauty of the authentic Hope Diamond.

Fireworks and Fun in Sommerville

One of the small city-communities that make up the greater Boston metropolis is Somerville. Although it is a separate political entity, it really is part of the larger fabric that forms Bostonian social and cultural life. Residents work, shop and play throughout the metropolitan area and visitors to Boston hotels are just as likely to find themselves having dinner in Somerville or attending the city’s third Riverfest on September 25th.

Somerville is developing Assembly Row and Assembly Square as a SmartGrowth development which, when complete, will encompass not only office space, restaurants, and shopping, but also open spaces and public parks to be enjoyed by all. Riverfest celebrates the progress made towards this growing center of social, work, and daily life for the area. It features food and family activities as well as performances and music for all to enjoy. All proceeds from food sales will be donated to the Arthur D. Healy School’s PTA to encourage education and development of future generations of residents. The event begins at 4pm at Assembly Square with an amazing 30 minute fireworks display along the Mystic River scheduled for 7:45pm. In case of rain, the event will be held on September 26th.

Barbecue in Dallas

Texas is a big state. In fact it’s huge. And most things in Texas are either huge themselves, or they’re eaten. Okay, that’s a slight exaggeration. But it’s the only slight thing about the great state of Texas. And one of the things that is huge in Texas is also extremely popular in Dallas. This is the fine art of barbecue. Texans love their barbecue and the ones that live in Dallas claim to have some of the best barbecue in the country, or for that matter the world.

Great barbecue in Dallas can be found in the most unlikely places, and while everyone has their personal taste and preference, there are some standard venues that are agreed to have great food. And for the guests in a hotel Dallas , these are great choices. Sammy’s Barbecue in uptown has solid portions and great sides. It’s a great place for the hearty appetite and it’s not short on flavor.

Meanwhile, if you’re downtown Sonny Bryan’s Smokehouse is a popular favorite. It’s been in existence since 1910 and continues to serve some of the best sauce in the city. Sonny’s is also known for its large portions. And while you’re downtown be sure to check out Dick’s Last Resort, which is known as much for its lively atmosphere as it is for its ribs and Baker’s Ribs , which continues to enjoy a solid reputation.

Ferry Rides to Corfu

The Greek Island of Corfu has played an important role in the country’s history and its significance to Greek culture dates back to the ancient period. It has had role in major political struggles and various battles. And while it has seen its share of turmoil and struggle, the island today is most reminiscent of its romantic mythological stories that were based their in ancient times. And while accessing the island in historic periods may have been more difficult and primarily used for political purposes, today there are numerous ferries and an airport that transports tourists to and from the island on a daily basis.

Guests in one of the beautiful beach Corfu hotels have some of the most spectacular views of the Ionian Sea . Though for many of them their luxury accommodations are not the first chance at a great view they’ve had. Most of the ferry trips to and from the island include gorgeous views and are themselves a favorite aspect of the trip. There are some traditional ferry services as well as specialized high tech hydrodynamic airflows that allow for high speed ferry service. These are typically called the flying dolphin ferries. Regardless of the ferry that transports guests to the island, many claim its like passing through time and feel they enter the mythological paradise that enchanted the gods of ancient times.
