Surprise Trip to Grenada

Gertrude finally quite complaining that her husband David never did anything romantic when he surprised her for no reason with two tickets to Spain. She actually almost fell out of her chair when she unfolded her napkin at their favorite Spanish restaurant and the travel envelope fell out. Not sure what it was, she opened it and saw the reservations for a week’s stay at one of the luxury hotels Granada and that’s when her mouth dropped. David jokingly told her that the food would be there shortly so she could closer her mouth, but Gertrude didn’t hear a thing as she looked through the rest of the travel itinerary.

It turns out that David had actually won the travel package through his performance at work. This didn’t bother Gertrude a bit and in fact actually even pleased her more because they couldn’t normally afford such an extended holiday, after all, they would be in Spain a month, and she hated to ask where he got the money. But since it was a work bonus of sorts, she was all the more pleased and particularly touched by the way he presented the trip to her. David wasn’t typically romantic, remember.

Not only were most of the cities the already decided on but David also took the liberty of investigating some of the main attractions he thought they should visit. An overnight stay in the Sierra Nevada Mountains was definitely on the list as well as was visiting many of the interesting historic sights and buildings that Granada is full of. As with many of the cities of Spain, Granada is rich and complex in its history and this is evidenced by many of the buildings and city structures. The Gates of Fajalauza and the Royal Gate are examples of this and the buildings along Catholic Kings Street looked incredible from the brochures. However, trying his hands at romance he also realized the Gertrude might love to visit one of the beautiful parks in the city where they could have a private picnic.

Ayers Rock in the Australian Outback

In 1984 I saw a film by Werner Herzog that left a lasting impression on me.  That film was called “Where the Green Ants Dream”  Not only does Herzog always point out some of the absurdities in the world, but he has a stunning eye for what is visually amazing.  The film was set in the Australian outback and the plot revolved around the sacred Aboriginal ground that is being threatened by the arrival of a mining company.  The construction will destroy the colony of green ants, and when the ants cannot dream, the existence of humanity becomes precarious.

Ayers Rock, also known as Uluru, is a ground such as this.  It is located in then center of the country, far from any luxury hotel Australia offers in the bigger cities, but accommodations can be found nearby in the town of Alice Springs.  This is the world’s second largest single rock formation, the first being also located in Australia, Mount Augustus.  What is amazing about Uluru is that there are no fissures in the rock, thus over the many years no particles were able to settle, and the rock remains with its perfect surface, and remains grand in size.

Aside from the geological wonder of the rock, many tourists seeking spirituality, a good hike in the desert, or some incredible photographic opportunities travel to this area throughout the year.  The best time to visit the site is just before the sun gone, or just as the sun is coming up.  Many natural wonders are viewed best in this light, and Ayers Rock is no exception.

The colors are like that of the New Mexico rock formations in the United States, and as the light changes so too does the rock.  Colors become almost electric and the desert floor is eerily transformed as the shadows shift and change.  The Aborigines are not fond of tourists climbing on the rock, but many do so regardless.  Sometimes the desert heat can sneak up on those not used to the hike and the temperature, so be careful if you chose to risk the wrath of the ancestors, and the heat of the Australian summer sun.

Seville Hiphop

Traveling in southern Spain has an appeal that speaks to legendary and romantic ideas of what touring the world is all about.  Seville is one of those cities that can live up to its myth, and even surpass it, with its remarkable atmosphere and sense of style.  There are many brilliant things about the city which are immediately apparent when setting foot in Seville.  Hotels are abundant, and quite splendid, and there are plenty of restaurants, cafes, and shops that are waiting for exploration.  There are also remarkable architectural masterpieces here, and it’s very difficult to spend any time in the city without feeling as though you’re falling in love.  It has a metropolitan heartbeat that speaks to centuries of cultural evolutions, and there are many styles, sensibilities, and worlds that exist here simultaneously.

It is a splendid place to go and soak up the energy of a very vibrant and exciting city, and also a perfect place for a romantic getaway.  It’s one of the most coveted destinations, offering all the wonderful things that tourists look for when seeing a new place for the first time.  For repeat visitors, it is perhaps even more exciting, as it is a city that is in constant change, with new artistic visions constantly moving in, adding to the fabric of the place.  Youth culture is refreshingly active here, and it’s hard not to notice that hiphop culture is huge in Seville.

There is a lively street culture, with graffiti, break dancing, and musical improvisations everywhere, and a host of live events that happen every night.  Spain has always been one of the premiere markets for hiphop generally, and Seville is one of its main centers.  It’s important to note here that in Spain, it’s a little different than in the U.S., and hiphop here is much less focused on material culture, and more focused on making positive social change.  Hiphop is a forum for free expression, and there is a magnificent energy at events like Territorios Sevilla, where musical styles from African and Spain are on display, and the city responds to the rhythm with a stunning beat that is all their own.

Proper Cleaning of Your Vehicle’s Cooling System

In order for the cooling system and the radiator of your car to function properly, it must be cleaned regularly.  Deposits will form that are solid waste that will clog the system and cause your car to be more prone to overheating.  Especially in climates where the temperature outside reaches the upper degrees on the the thermometer.  Regular flushing of the system is the way to prevent permanent damage to your small engine.  Repair manuals are priceless when you decide to do this yourself.

This is one do it yourself auto repair that is quite easy to learn how to do on your own and a very quick procedure to finish up.  Each season change the anti-freeze in your radiator should also be changed.  The tools you will need are few and include a wrench or a screw driver–this will depend on your drain, a cloth, solution to flush the radiator, a funnel and a container to catch the old fluid in so it can be properly disposed of–this is extremely important if you have household pets.

Radiator fluid is sweet, and most dogs and cats will drink it up quickly, which will most inevitably cause them intense sickness and often times produce fatal results.  Wait until your engine is entirely cool to begin the flush.  Now it is time to locate the drain.  This is also a home repair–or maintenance rather, that is easy to do on a motor cycle.  Manuals come in very handy when trying to locate these various parts on either a bike or on the under carriage of your car.

Be sure to have your container in place to catch the fluid before you undo the drain.  Make sure that the old coolant is completely out of the radiator and then replace the drain.  Now take off the cap of the radiator, fill it with the cleaning solution and top it off with water.  Next, start your car up and let the engine reach its normal operating temperature.  Turn the heater of your car on and let the car run like that in idle for ten minutes.

Now, it is time to wait for the car engine to cool off again.  Do not remove the cap when the engine is still hot.  Again, drain the radiator, catching all the contents in the disposal container, replace the drain, and fill up the radiator with new coolant.  Doing a proper flush of your radiator at regular intervals with maintain a system that will continue to function properly, thus extending the life of your car or motorcycle.

Outdoor cabinets perfect cooking accompaniment

When you start thinking about the details for your outdoor kitchen, it can become like a pleasant game with yourself.  Imagining all the different possibilities, from the most fantastic to the most practical, and then trying to imagine a happy medium, can make for many happy afternoon daydreams.  There are a host of options with our grills, too, and something that will meet every budget and taste.  You might consider outdoor sinks, outdoor cabinets, or perhaps even sound systems and media systems.  It all depends on your style and desires.

If you’re going to be spending a lot of time outdoors, cooking as a social affair, surrounded by family and friends, cabinets are a splendid idea.  There is a convenience and ease to having everything you need at your fingertips, and the storage possibilities are pretty wide.  You can have all your spices at your fingertips, and you’ll see that spice plays a major role in your life.  Even with something as simple as chicken, there are multiple ways to spice, and you’ll soon see that every chef has their own, often very passionate, opinions about how to spice correctly.  With chicken there are marinades or rubs, or the simple method of adding a little salt to each side while it’s grilling.

A rub is a very nice way to add textures of flavor to the chicken, and there are plenty of chicken rub recipes.  The basic idea is to add dry spices, such as paprika, chile powder, and thyme, together and coat both sides of the chicken before putting it to the flame.  Another option is to brine the chicken.  This is really a fantastic alternative to marinating, and the idea is very similar.  With brining, you soak it overnight in a mixture of water, sugar, salt, and spices of your choice.  The water keeps the chicken moist while the flavors seep in and penetrate the flesh, making for an incredibly juicy grilled chicken that will really knock off your socks.  With your cabinets full of spices, there’s no end to what you can do.

Ghosts and Ghouls in Knoxville, TN

This October we are heading to Knoxville, TN. The drive there through the rolling hills and the Blue Ridge Mountains is a very spectacular drive in the fall of the year. The colors should be good, hopefully it will be the peak of the season and the color will be at its best, but that is always hard to time as one never can predict exactly when the fall colors will peak.

Knoxville is a beautiful city right on the river, i love walking around the city and enjoying the people and architecture.. Lots of blue grass and country music, food, bars and night clubs so many we never get to all we want ot get to. It is always a good time when we visit. We have our reservations at hotels Knoxville for the weekend of the Blount Mansion Ghosts and Ghouls Walking Tour. The Blount Mansion is located in the downtown Knoxville area and is a very interesting bit of the history of the area. The walking tour includes the mansion and some of the surrounding area. They tell many historic stories and tales that are popular in the area. The Ghost and Ghouls tour is something we have been wanting to do for a while now and finally we will be going.

We will be leaving here on Thursday noon time so we should be able to make it to Knoxville by seven in the evening or so. Our weekend will be filled with eating and drinking. Taking in as many bands and music venues as we can fit in for the couple of days we will be there. Always non stop and always fun out getting away to Knoxville has become an event we look forward to a few times a year.

Well now that the plans have been laid, the reservations made and the time taken off work all there is now to do is wait for the day to leave. Oh and pack a bag.

Husband Chooses Brisbane For Summer Vacation

Linda was so glad, after the fact, that she allowed her husband Travis to pick the location of their last vacation. Generally, it was something that they decided together, and once when they had difficulty choosing a place they each put an option in a hat and had their neighbor randomly pick one for them. That year they went to Madrid, Spain, and it too was an incredible experience. However, this year they decided to try something new. Instead of always trying to choose a mutual and equally appealing location, which oftentimes proved to be difficult, they decided that each year they would take turns choosing the location. And since this was originally Linda’s idea, she decided to let Travis have the first pick and thought that would entice him to agree with this structure.

Travis immediately liked the idea and thought it would actually allow for greater personal expression and offer each of them the chance to experience something unfamiliar and learn more about the other’s interests. He immediately jumped at the chance to not only choose first, but to initiate this new system. When he announced that the summer’s vacation would occur in Brisbane, Australia, Linda kept it hid, but had to admit to herself that she was a little regretful of the idea because she really wanted to go to Greece that year. So, she added to the plan that the person who chose the location also had to do the research on where to stay and what to do.

Travis was happy to do all of the above and found the perfect accommodations for the two of them in one of the quaint hotels Brisbane. Linda found herself slightly surprised but immediately fell in love with the city and enjoyed the incredible views from their hotel balcony. Their first night in town they walked along the Riverside Walkway and neither of them could believe the beauty of the night’s cityscape. Great views and hotel accommodations were not the only thing they enjoyed. They visited the local landmarks and museums and also saw a great production of the Magic Flute by Opera Queensland.

She’s part of a global project to interact with local citizens about their relationship with petrol, and Dubai was chosen because of its history, which makes it a Hot Spot.  The work of Monoian is really exquisite, and absolutely dependent on the spectactor.  She also engages in projects, like the Land Art Generator that attract artists for participation, rather than for a general audience.  She is also a member of the Society for Cultural Exchange, which works toward engaging the public with their homelands, and networking as a means of survival.  The work asks fascinating questions, so if you happen to be on the other side of these questions, feel free to run and hide, or share your opinion in whatever art form you choose.

The Years of Law School

The first year of law school will be the one that is filled with some of the most difficult courses.  These are important.  Many other programs design their curriculum to set apart the weaker students from the stronger students.  These classes in the first year are requirements that are set by the American Bar Association, ABA.  The cover courses in Torts, Criminal Procedure, Contracts, Legal Writing, and Civil Procedure.

These are the groundwork courses that are intended to prepare those who will continue on with their degree, and to prepare those who will eventually work in a Salt Lake City law firm, or any law firm in the United States.  These are known to be some of the toughest courses that one will experience throughout their years in law school.  These are the basis for all other courses, and the concepts are all thrown out there at once.

But after the first year, one will have the knowledge, and be familiar with the language, and thus the other courses will be less difficult.  Most second and third year students refer back to the first year of study, and most practicing attorneys will refer back to their first year in school as well.  Once that year is completed, one will be able to find special areas of study that are of particular interest to them, such as Environmental Law, Entertainment Law or Intellectual Property.

The courses offered differ from university to university, so it is wise to study up on what each school will offer in order to make the best decisions, the decisions that are right for oneself and one’s interests.  Some courses include simple tests, while others involve more writing and research.  Time management, organizational skills and analytical thinking is a must as all the courses will be extremely demanding.  But the day one walks across the stage to receive their Juris Doctorate degree,  one will know that they have accomplished a task, one that has been a long and tiresome one, but one of the most important of their lives.
