Bangalore Moving Day

8:49 pm Travel

I’ve finally moved into my apartment! Yay! I got my independence on Indian Independence day. I checked out of one of the four star hotels Bangalore has many of on Friday. I hired a driver for the whole day. I had him drive me to some construction shops. I thought this would be an easy task, but it wasn’t. The driver didn’t speak English, but fortunately, I have several students at my disposal, so I called one of them and asked if he’d mind being my translator for the day. He said that most of the drivers don’t speak Hindi, but the he’d give his wife a call. His wife then called my driver and spoke in the local language of Kannada. This worked out well for the both of us.

I found some construction shops, where I needed to locate some electrical stuff. There was a mall that seemed to have what I needed. I went back to my apartment and with two delivery men and a washing machine and a refrigerator, but there was no apartment agent around. I didn’t have keys to my apartment yet, but, once again, fortunately, the landlord sent a driver to drop off the keys for me. We go in, checked everything over and they installed all the items I purchased. I still needed some more items installed and explained that to my apartment agent, and they told me there was no lock so I had to padlock the apartment. Then the landlord’s maid came in a spend the whole day cleaning.

I spent another three days having to re-clean, she wasn’t good at all. I threw out fake flowers and other crap which was left over from the previous tenant. I slept really well because where I live it relatively quiet, which is excellent for such a noisy city as Bangalore . I did wake to monsoon rain that left a wonderful pool of water on my balcony. All in all, I’m in…padlock, fridge and washer machine.
