Looking at a map of California can be daunting. Not only is the Golden State the world’s eighth largest economy, it’s the third largest state in land area on the United States Map. Although, the freeways can be intimidating a road trip to California is quite easy and a lot more affordable than paying for airfare for an entire family. The key to making a road trip a success is to be prepared. If you already live on the Western half of the United States, it is fairly simple to navigate your way to beaches or National Parks in California.

The essential for any road trip and especially a road trip to California is a good USA map . Don’t simply rely on internet maps because they can sometimes be quite unreliable. Visit your local bookstore or AAA branch to pick up an up-to-date one. Be aware that drivers in California can be quite aggressive, so it is advisable to have your route planned out so you do not miss any turns or off-ramps. Unlike in some other states, California has a good number of exits that allow cars to get off on the left, which can be confusing to someone who is from out of town. If you do miss your exit, don’t get frustrated, there will most likely be a way to turn around.

Allow your car to be a no frustration zone, and remember to switch the driver from time to time. Driving on California highways or anywhere for that matter is not a good idea when you are tired, or sleep deprived. Also, beware of the toll roads as you enter Southern California, only people who live in the state can apply for access to the toll roads, and because they are blocked off from the rest of the freeway there is no better way to spot an out-of-towner, then seeing a car try to escape from the toll lanes.
As long as you have a good US Map in hand and a need for a vacation, with gas as cheap as it is now, it’s time to take a weekend in California.
