Happy 50th NASA!
July 29, 2008 8:48 pm Society, TechnologyOn this day, fifty years ago, President Eisenhower signed the National Aeronautics and Space Act. It was on that day America began its concerted quest to explore the unknown. NASA has helped us to “boldly go where no man has gone before.” We owe so much of our modern technology thanks to the research and exploration initiated by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. We have GPS, satellite TV, foam mattresses, and advancements in technology – computers, medical imaging, nanotechnology, weather monitoring, and so much more – thanks to people willing to dedicate their careers and lives to exploring the space we live in.
Celebrating NASA’s 50th anniversary is commemorating fifty years of discovery, innovation and inspiration. To observe the occasion, there are many space and technology related events going on. Tonight is even NASA night at the Astros baseball game at home in Houston. For a full list of future events, check out their events calendar at: www.nasa.gov/50th/calendar
